Research Critical Analysis Reflection

The research critical analysis was a very challenging task in my opinion because I had a hard time identifying the problem, finding out what the difference between this essay and the explanatory essay is and finding someone to interview. I struggle lots in the interview section because I reached out to many professors in the business field as a start so I can connect to a senior, but I had no luck with a professor . This essay required many different and new concepts that were not in the explanatory essay. We had to really emphasize the course were going to take every year. When breaking down the essay section by section it made it challenging, because I had to think about the future in a very detailed way; I have never done before and I find that is a lot to complete since I don’t really know what I want to do at this moment, so knowing and writing down what I want to do in the future makes it more challenging and stressful especially when you have to be very detailed and specific. I personally haven’t thought of the future courses and internships i’m going to try and complete by my senior year in college because im trying to focus on my present day issues and what I am interested in now especially since I have in mind transferring to another college.

During this essay I was able to research business as a career and a major. I learned lots of new information that I never knew about before like many business degrees serve no purpose depending on the business you want to get into also the best way to enter a business industry is differ from everyone else. The more I do something different, I am seen more unique in a crowd of people trying to do the same thing as I am. Which getting a business major make it difficult to be different and stand out since lots of people get it. Researching this major made me really think about whether business is for me or if I just choose this to complete an assignment. Being specific with what exact internship i’m going to apply, courses i’m going to take make me disconnected from the paper since it is less realistic.

This essay had many parts in which I used the course learning outcomes to connect my whole essay together. Throughout many parts of my essay I need to improve in my course learning outcomes especially in researching because I need to gather more information about the business major, through interviews ask more specific questions, researching the requirements for the major, schools that are best for business other than baruch, etc. By completing more research I can strengthen the sections that require me to describe jobs within the business major, the courses I must take throughout college, what internships best suits the job i’m interested in, etc.

Another area of the course learning outcomes I have used and have tried to incorporated within my essay was the develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing. Theses strategies have helped me with editing and revising  especially after having my work peer reviewed and using that feedback to improve my paper. Through peer review I was able to see that when I write I use also lots as a way to continue an idea when I can use alternative words or add punctuation to start and end a sentence. This learning outcome is something I need to work on because I do not give myself enough time to actually revise and edit my paper at least two times so that I can catch my mistakes and errors.

The course learning outcome strategy explore and analyze, in writing and reading (rhetorical situations) was useful while writing the research critical analyze specifically media/ design, genre and audience. I used media/ design as a way to format my essay. I need more work in media/ design so that I can be able to have the layout of my essay help improve the reader’s understanding to the purpose of the essay, rather than hurt my essay and have reader not understand what’s going on in my essay.  Media/ design ties into the flow of an essay which I struggle with because I find it challenging transitioning for one idea to another without being stale. Media/design and genre help build the structure of my essay so that the style of my essay fits best with the critical analysis. When using genre I need to make sure that my research critical analysis is APA format which means that I need to add a cover page, an abstract and a title. This is something I did not include within my essay which is needed for the overall format of my critical analysis. Audience was used as well in my essay as a way to structure my essay as well. This was a difficult thing for myself because when I define concepts of design thinking my feedback is that I don’t need to do that since the professor is the reader but I think that it’s best to generalize the audience the more it becomes easier to be very specific about each task which helps the reader grasp a better understanding of the essay.
